5 Time Management Tips for Business Growth

We all wear multiple hats, and as fitness entrepreneurs, we all feel pulled in a million directions at some point during our day. We feel the need to do ALL THE THINGS, then struggle to deal with the guilt of not getting it all done. Trust me, even the most organized of us struggle with having ‘enough time’ to get everything done during the day. Can we all agree that ‘enough time’ will never happen?

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” -Michael Altshuler.

Instead of focusing on what didn’t get done, flip the script and focus on what you can fit in. Here are five time management tips for fitness business owners like you. The first three are preparation work so that you can dive into daily tips 4 and 5.

1. Know Your Current Goals

Before improving your time management skills, you must know your current goals for the next 3 months. You can’t “manage” time without a set of priorities. You can’t have set priorities without an end game or finish line. What are your current goals? Yes, staying alive & sane can be a goal, but I am talking more about a specific goal with dedicated endings that are measurable. Yes, consistently posting on social media for 3-months can be a goal. Yes, moving up a rank in your MLM can be a goal. Whatever you decide, write them down.

2. List Out Your Tasks

On that same piece of paper or journal where you wrote your 3-month goal, create a list of all of your daily & weekly obligations, tasks, commitments, and responsibilities right now in your life. Now, create three columns and rate each activity’s time needed, happiness fulfillment, and goal alignment. Use a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest.

3. Ditch, Replace or Add

Ask yourself: Are your daily and weekly schedules in alignment with your goals? If your goal is to gain 2 clients per month, but you don’t have a task focused on attaining that goal, you will never achieve it.

If the action that takes up the most of your time is not high on your happiness fulfillment column, then it is time to ditch it. Whether that is your side hustle distributor job, moderator of a Facebook group, weekly family dinners with your sister, or room mom role at school, if it isn’t high on your happiness or goal fulfillment column, make an action plan to ditch that obligation.

4. Focus Your Day

Now that you know your priorities, every morning, take five minutes to prioritize the three must-do actions for that day. Do those three things first. Focus on only one task at a time. Please do not attempt to multitask all of them at once.

We recommend the Productive Planner from Intelligent Change. This book can change your morning routine and daily focus. The activities in the book will help you focus your time and efforts.

5. Celebrate What You Did

We should always practice gratitude, especially with ourselves. Once you accomplish your three prioritized tasks for the day, take a moment to thank yourself. When you start to feel guilt creeping into your mind, make a list of what you accomplished throughout the day. Writing it down will show you that you have done more than you think.

Be sure to thank yourself for all of the jobs well done.
